Utility Curtain Rods are designed to be used with their coordinating traverse rod. Utility rods shouldn't be used as a stand alone rod. Utility rods can be used for inside mount applications for sheers or light-weight fabrics in certain circumstances.

Utility Curtain Rods Are Typically Used With Traverse Rods

Utility Curtain Rods are almost always used in conjunction with a traverse rod. In many cases, utility rods can be suspended beneath an operable rod and used to hold sheers or other stationary fabric panels. Some components are available which will allow you to use a utility rod as an inside mount rod as well.

It's very important to determine the brand of traverse rod you have before buying a utility rod to go with it. Most utility rods are made specifically to work with traverse rods from their own brand. The connecting components are designed to fit on and under their traversing counterparts. You may be able to retrofit a utility rod to work with any traverse rod, but it's not going to fit correctly "out of the box" - you'll definitely have some adjustments to make on your own. We can only recommend using a utility rod with traverse rods within its own brand.

Utility rods are designed for use with stationary panels or sheers. It's not a good idea to try to use rings with a utility rod. There's a good chance that the rings will interfere with the operation of the traverse rod you're using with it.
